Question:

How often are royalties paid?

Answer:

We send out royalty statements – giving you an account of your direct earnings from the sale of your book – on a quarterly basis. The royalty statement lists the number of books that have been sold. Your earnings will be transferred to your bank account or sent to you by cheque from an amount of €25 onwards. You may also track your current sales online at myBoD in the section “My Books”.

Question:

How great is the financial risk?

Answer:

Your financial risk is minimal. The main reason for this is that we only print your book after we have received an order. There are no fixed advance print runs, and you pay only once for the generation of the digital print file or the service you order from BoD. Moreover, we charge a minimum monthly data maintenance fee of €1.99 incl. sales tax. The profit margin for your book is up to you, because it is you who determines the list price. You can perform sample calculations of the one-time costs for your book using the price calculator.

Question:

Do I also pay sales tax if my place of residence is outside of Germany?

The production of the book and the generation of the camera-ready copy are services which are rendered in Germany. Therefore even customers from other countries may not deduct this pre-tax.
