What does a BoD book look like?
Answer:
BoD books may have a large variety of production and design details among which you as an author can choose. Generally speaking, you have the choice between paperback, hardcover, and booklet bindings. A BoD paperback is indistinguishable from a standard paperback. Its cover is coated with a protective film – optionally plain or glossy. For the cover of a casebound book you can decide between a laminated book cover (one that is coated with a protective film), and an Efalin cover (full-binding material made of very firm, specially selected raw materials on a paper base) with dust jacket, as well as between straight and round spine including a ribbon page marker. The booklet is a spiral-bound brochure which is particularly suitable for manuscripts with a small number of pages. Aside from the type of binding you may also choose between two different paper stocks (white and off-white) as well as seven different trim sizes (standard, large, and maxi format).
Is there a minimum or maximum number of pages?
Answer:
Binding technology dictates that your book has no less than 24 pages and no more than 700 pages as a paperback or hardcover. Booklets may have from 4 to 48 pages. In any event, the number of pages must be divisible by four.
Can the book also contain colour illustrations?
Answer:
Yes, we also offer colour printing in the book block for all bindings. Thanks to our innovative printing method ColorPlus, you pay a higher fee per page only for those pages in paperbacks and hardcovers which in fact contain colour design elements. There are no limitations to this, as full-bleed colour design is possible from the first to the last page, with any placement you prefer.
May books also contain only individual colour pages?
Answer:
Yes. Our printing method ColorPlus allows for colour design even on a single page. There are no rules for the placement of the colour pages. You pay a higher fee per page only for those pages in paperbacks and hardcovers which in fact contain colour design elements. Booklets have fixed fees for black-and-white or colour versions.
Can BoD paperbacks also be produced as brochures with gate-folded covers?
Answer:
No. The production of small and very small print runs by way of the on-demand method requires certain standards in finishing. With its various bindings as well as seven different trim sizes BoD offers a large selection of attractive options for the production details. Please check if a hardcover with dust jacket is a viable alternative for you to a brochure with gate-folded cover.
